- You will most likely get dirty and/or wet, so dress accordingly.
- Please be very careful when setting any items on the ground. Some dogs view any object on the ground as a toy, and will pick them up and play with, chew on or dunk them! If you bring personal items with you, please use the tables.
- Lock your valuables in your car.
- Leash your dogs in the parking lot.
- If you witness behavior that concerns you, calmly approach the owner and let them know your concerns
LEGAL
- Costa Mesa Municipal Code relating to the park is posted to the right of the front gate
PLAIN ENGLISH
- Use of CMBP falls into the “user’s assumption of risk” category, just like all other city park acilities
- Owners must have a leash in their possession for each dog – Leash laws apply until you are inside the park entrance
- Limit of 4 dogs per adult, per visit
- Puppies must be 16 weeks old
- Dogs must have all their shots and a city or county license
- Visitors must pick-up their dogs’ feces
- Aggressive dogs are not permitted; any dog that becomes aggressive during a visit must be removed immediately
- Dogs in heat, pregnant or lactating are not permitted
- No food of any kind is allowed
- No advertising or soliciting in the parking lot or park
COMMON SENSE
- CONTROL YOUR DOG; owners should keep their dog in-sight at all times and be aware of how he is interacting with that day’s mix of dogs – dogs can not be left alone in one area while owner is in the other with additional dogs
- COLLARS; while every dog should have a collar with id tags, PINCH & SHOCK COLLARS are PROHIBITED in the park and CHOKE COLLARS are dangerous for playing dogs
- SMALL DOG AREA is for small, elderly, disabled; use common sense and courtesy to other visitors when determining which area of the park to use
- NO FOOD of any kind, even in pockets or bags
- DISPOSAL OF WASTE; please pick up all dog waste in bags provided in dispensers throughout the park, tie the bag & dispose in trash containers
- DIGGING; try to keep your dog from digging – if they do, call Hotline to report location of hole so it can be filled the next Tuesday
- NO ROLLERBLADES, BICYCLES, SCOOTERS, SKATEBOARDS, ETC should used inside the park; many dogs do not like wheels and will try to chase them away or become aggressive
CHILDREN
- MONITOR your child’s activities, if you bring young children to the dog park. Do not put your children at risk
- DOGS PLAY HARD running, tumbling, jumping, rassling – they are not looking out for children and could knock them down, etc
- NO RUNNING; a dog’s instinct is to chase a moving object and/or try to herd them by nipping at the heels
- NOISE; a screaming or crying child resembles an injured animal and will attract dogs who could become excited and/or aggressive
- APPROACHING UNKNOWN DOGS; while your dog may be accustomed to children, not all dogs are – teach your children to wait for the owner’s permission and to let the dog come to them
- BALLS & DOG TOYS are dirty and belong to the dogs – teach your children to leave them alone for health and safety reasons
- NO CLIMBING on trees or fences
- RECLAIMED WATER is used in the irrigation system & dog urine is present everywhere, so keep small children from sitting on the ground or playing in standing water
BULLETIN BOARDS
- The glass-fronted bulletin board in the Large Dog Area is for official postings from the CMBP Foundation (the plan is to add one in the Small Dog Area)
- The bulletin board in the entry area between gates is for park user postings
- Size limit of 8 ½ x 11 inches per posting
- Date your posting
- Posting will be removed after three weeks
- Canine related businesses that support CMBP may post one business card or one sign up to 8 ½ x 11”
- No soliciting means no mass distribution of cards or flyers – it is permissible to engage fellow park visitors in conversation and provide them information, if they request it
